Welcome
to Giclee U. We have put together various multimedia solutions
to help you better understand the process and benefits of
giclee printing. If you have any requests or questions please
email me.
What is Giclee?
Many people ask, what is giclee? who is giclee? Not a bad
question to ask. Giclee printing is the digital printing of
art and photography on archival materials. Technically, the
word is French for "spit" or "spray",
because the digital art printer is spraying ink onto the material.
Handmade Giclees
What makes Handmade Giclees better? Applying handmade to the
process, means that a giclee craftsman loads the machines
by hand, pulls the material off by hand, trims all materials
by hand, and completes all finishing procedures by hand.
Once a canvas giclee is printed and pulled, then the craftsman
hangs and sprays the canvas with a clearcoat using an HVLP,
ensuring even flow and light coverage for UV and scratch resistance.
Once the pieces dry, the craftsman stretches the canvas by
hand to the stretcher bars. This is the most important part
of the handmade process. The corners are trimmed and folded
properly, the edges are lined up exactly, and the proper pressure
is applied to not affect the integrity of the piece. Finally
the giclee is handpacked, and shipped out. (If a company uses
machinery to stretch the canvas, this may poorly affect the
integrity of your final artistic presentation).
